From Promise to Possession: Walking Into What’s Already Yours

Scripture Focus: Joshua 1-3
“Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.” (Joshua 1:3)
“Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God is giving you to possess.” (Joshua 1:11)
The Paradox of Promise
When Israel stood at the Jordan, God’s words carried a holy tension:
“I have given you the land” (past tense, settled, finished).
“I am giving you the land” (present tense, unfolding, active).
“You will possess the land” (future tense, conditional on obedience).
This is the paradox every believer lives in: God’s promises are already given, being given, and yet must be possessed.
1. Given - Settled in Heaven
From heaven’s perspective, the title deed was signed. Jericho, Ai, Canaan, all theirs by divine decree.
2. Being Given - Unfolding in Time
The giving was progressive. With every obedient step, more territory was released.
3. To Possess - Requires Action on Earth
Feet had to tread, priests had to step into swollen Jordan, the people had to march. Possession is not automatic; it is enacted by obedience.
Crossing Jordans: The Testing of Transition
The Jordan was at flood stage (Josh. 3:15). Naturally impossible. Yet the priests stepped in carrying the Ark, and the waters rolled back.
Prophetic lesson: The promise waits for your feet. Miracles don’t precede movement; they follow it. For us, Jordans are those swollen, impossible barriers...finances, fear, systems, or limitations. They part only when the Ark (God’s presence) goes before us and we dare to step in.
Prophetic Insights for This Season
Promise comes with paradox. Don’t be discouraged if what God said feels both finished and not-yet. That’s His pattern.
Preparation is non-negotiable. Joshua told the people: “Prepare provisions for yourselves.” You cannot cross without readiness.
Presence must go first. The Ark led the way. Strategy follows Presence, not the reverse.
Three days matter. God’s timing often mirrors resurrection, death, waiting, then rising into new inheritance.
This first week of September is a Jordan moment. The month is not just about new beginnings, it’s about transitioning from promise to possession.
Consecrate yourself. Cut away distractions; set yourself apart.
Prepare provisions. Put structure behind faith. Align schedules, budgets, disciplines.
Step in first. Don’t wait for waters to part; move when God says move.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for promises already given. I consecrate myself afresh this month. Prepare me for transition. Give me courage to step into swollen Jordans, knowing Your Presence goes before me. Let promises move from “given” to “possessed” in my life.
Declarations
I am not waiting idly; I am walking into what is already mine.
The land is given, the land is being given, and I will possess it.
Every Jordan before me will part as I step in with God’s Presence leading the way.

This process of my family joining me in the UK is just that. Hurdles after hurdle. It is very evident however that God is with us and taking us through. That is what keeps me hopeful. I can't wait to testify about this.
